MS Windows • Re: Context menu opens ASCII filter options

I had this same problem. Bill is correct, and this is how I solved it.

In open office I created the template I wanted, and went to File - Template - Organize, double clicked on "My Template" and then right clicked on the template I created and clicked "export" and named is soffice.odt, and saved it. It will change .odt to .ott, so you will need to rename the file to soffice.odt.

You want to save it here:
"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Templates"
but it might not let you. In that case, save it in documents and move it to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Templates". in file explorer or whatever.
And like i said, make sure it is named soffice.odt, NOT .ott.

Now In windows registry, I went to:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.odt\ShellNew

there was a string named "NullData" with the value of "1",
I renamed "NullData" to "FileName", and I changed the value from "1" to "soffice.odt".

After that, I no longer get the ASCII filer option when creating a file through the context menu on my desktop. Thought I'd share since I had this same problem.

and Thanks Bill!
