The nearest you can get to what you describe is by changing the view layout. On the right of the status bar are three icons, from left to right they are single page, side-by-side, and book layout views. Try side by side - with your page size you should get a reasonable number of pages across the screen.Search the forum for split window for more discussion on the topic.
